What is EYB?
EYB stands for Expand Your Business. It is an integrated business training and support package for small to medium scale enterprises that have growth potential and capacity to create more and better jobs.

What is the EYB Vision?
click to enlarge The vision of the EYB programme is to assist enterprises that have growth potential to develop strategies to exploit the growth potential of their enterprises. They are also assisted to strengthen their business systems in such functional areas like marketing, human resources and finance.

Who is EYB for?
EYB is a package for Growth Oriented Enterprises (GOE) who face constraints in achieving their growth ambitions. The programme is for owners and managers who do not always find time to devote themselves to strategic issues required to grow further and are absorbed in the daily operations and problem solving work in the business. A GOE normally employs between 6-30 (sometimes up to 50 but less than 100 employees). The business has basic management systems for marketing, stock control, record keeping etc and has been in operation for at least a year. The programme is designed to assist such entrepreneurs to anticipate, plan and successfully manage the growth of their enterprises.

EYB Training Modules
The EYB training component has 4 modules, in which appropriate content is presented with relevant and easy to follow case studies, group and individual exercises. More importantly, at the end of each module is a business growth plan, which enables participants to plan and implement their growth process. Each of the growth plans in the 4 modules will build in to the overall business growth plan.

The EYB Training materials are comprised of 4 modules covering the following key subject areas:

- Strategic Management
_:This is the access point for the EYB programme. This module is compulsory and should _:ideally be offered to the business owner / CEO / MD of the organization. However, functional _:managers, who have capacity to influence policy decisions within the organization, can also _:apply. Organizations that have a vision to expand will need to develop strategies to manage _:the expansion. This process will involve the development of the vision and mission of the _:business, the objectives and strategies to achieve the objectives, implementation of the _:strategies and evaluation of performance. Training delivery takes place within 2-3 days.

- Strategic Marketing
_:The strategic marketing function in any enterprise is critical as it ensures that the business _:continues to generate new markets and maintains the current ones to ensure continued _:inflow of money into the business to sustain operations. The module is designed to assist _:enterprises to manage the marketing function through analyzing and capitalizing on market _:dynamics and information, business environment and competition in order to develop _:marketing strategies and plan from the 4 market variables i.e., product, place (distribution), _:price and promotion for growth. Training delivery takes place within 3 days.

- Strategic Human Resources Management
_:Human beings drive business organizations. The human beings have needs, wants and _:desires, which must be matched with the organizational goals and objectives in order to _:achieve optimum performance from the employees. Human resources are the most _:important resource each organization has. The Human Resources module will take _:participants through all the human resources functions including planning human resources _:needs, recruitment and selection, employee administration and motivation, health and _:workplace improvements, reward, recognition and development, HIV / AIDS issues, employee _:-employer relationships and employee retention and exit management. Training delivery _:takes place within 3 days.

- Strategic Financial Management
_:As the business approaches the growth stage, the management of finances becomes very _:critical to the organization. The Financial Management module is designed to assist _:enterprises to understand and use financial systems, develop, analyze and interpret financial _:statements and develop credit management and loss prevention systems for business _:growth. Training delivery takes place within 3-4 days.

EYB Core Offer
The EYB is an integrated programme, which involves more than just training, but facilitation of business and financial linkages, that are necessary as support inputs for business growth. The EYB package has training and non-training components, which are briefly outlined below:

- Training components:
_ > The GOE is assured of classroom training and at least 2 Individual Counseling sessions in ____addition to the networking with linkage partners. Training is initially delivered in a ____classroom environment in the 4 modules, beginning with the Strategic Management ____module, followed by Strategic Marketing, Strategic Human Resources and Strategic ____Financial Management. Delivery of the subsequent modules, depending on agreed ____schedules with the participants, takes place within a 2-4 week period of the first module to ____ensure integration with the developed strategies in the Strategic Management module.
____The classroom training is followed by the first Individual Counseling session to check on ____the completion of the Growth Plan and to encourage implementation of the business ____growth plan that is developed during training.
____The trainer can establish and facilitate Business Support Groups, where participants meet ____to discuss common problems identified needs, challenges and solutions, network and ____receive expert advice from invited resource specialists in identified areas.
____The second individual counseling session to check on implementation of the overall ____business growth plan is conducted to signify the end of the EYB intervention.

_ > The classroom training is followed by the first Individual Counseling session to check on ____the completion of the Growth Plan and to encourage implementation of the business ____growth plan that is developed during training.

_ > The trainer can establish and facilitate Business Support Groups, where participants meet to ____discuss common problems identified needs, challenges and solutions, network and receive ____expert advice from invited resource specialists in identified areas.

__> The second individual counseling session to check on implementation of the overall ____:business growth plan is conducted to signify the end of the EYB intervention.


- Non-training components
__The trainer facilitates linkages by ensuring interaction of participants with finance institutions, __marketing and export institutions, mentorship programmes, specialist agencies like tax __consultants, legal services etc or other business areas for the enterprise as identified during __the needs assessment and training. This provides excellent opportunities to network among __participants, trainers and guest presenters to exchange ideas and build useful business __formally during training and informally after training sessions. The price of the EYB package __also incorporates the costs of providing the needed linkage components as part of the value __adding aspects of the EYB programme.
